Liberty Towers will consist of two 37-story apartment towers with 648 units, rising from a single base that will house the complex's various tenant amenities, including a fitness center, pool and landscaped lounges. A restaurant, dry cleaner and high-end gourmet market are planned for the retail spaces at the base of the complex.

New York-based architectural firm Gruzen Samton is designing the property for joint venturers Essex Waterfront Co. LLC and Northwestern Mutual. According to design partner Jordan Gruzen, individual units will have unusual layouts owing to the expansive length of the building's curved façade.

"To capitalize on the dramatic vistas in all directions," according to Gruzen, "the shape of each tower combines a sweeping curved glass wall on one side and a saw-tooth façade of projecting glass-enclosed rooms on the other. We have extended these glass elements from the floor to the ceiling, which is high by most new building standards.
