The Crescent complex was honored creating the first science lab for Southmayd Elementary School, a facility with a low-income student population. Through its FACES of Change program, Greenway partners with Southmayd. The ribbons were just cut on the science teaching lab, which cost $39,000.
FACES volunteers converted classroom space into an open lab with portable lab stations, cubbyholes for equipment and students' work and a custom-built closet stocked with essential lab supplies and equipment. They also rewired the lab's lighting, provided four computers and installed dry-erase boards.
The lab will be used by students in pre-K through fifth grade. The lab took two months to construct.
