Urban Retail Properties, the developers of the Galleria expansion, was recognized for saving 30 trees during the development process. Of the preserved stand of trees, 14 were 25- to 30-year-old Live Oaks that were transplanted to nearby Hermann and Post Oak parks.

Coles Crossing, the 1,200-acre residential and commercial development at US Highway 290 and Barker-Cypress Road also received a tree preservation award at the "Green Tie" dinner. Jefferson Development Co. preserved 175 acres of forested land for recreational amenities, realigned major roadways and relocated community buildings to protect significant stands of trees. Among the saved trees is a "crooked" pine tree with a unique trunk that looped around itself. The tree, now relocated, was growing on a parcel earmarked for a 96-acre commercial center, Coles Crossing South.
