"The unusual mixed-use nature of this building is really a natural fit that meets everyone's needs," says Ferguson. "We needed a site for a new seniors' residence, and the Linden Library needed to expand."

Plans for the project are only in a preliminary design stage, according to Ferguson. The only hard fact is that the library will need about 2,000 sf for its use. Because of local fire and security regulations, the library will not be directly accessible from the residential component. The library, like the residential tower, will have its own main entranceway.Final cost-budget figures have not been set yet, but the authority is ready to get the project, its third building in this city of 42,000, underway quickly. A late 2003 completion is targeted.
