Keith A. Coelho, president and principal in San Antonio, tells GlobeSt.com that he and new principal, John Vogel, are scouting the market for experienced brokers and property managers. The 22-year veteran, who came on board May 1, was a senior director for Beverly Hills, CA-based Kennedy-Wilson International's San Antonio office for three years and Grubb & Ellis Co. before that. Vogel's addition brought 750,000 sf of leasing and management assignments.
Coelho stresses the growth doesn't necessarily translate into a lot more bodies at desks. While some "seasoned" hires are likely to be won over, chasing the contracts for assignments will be equally as important to the growth strategy. Vogel's expertise in leasing and management is, as Coelho says, a good fit for his skills in tenant representation and handling the "buying end" of the deal-making process.
The property management component is in line with what is happening at corporate. Sara Baker, the new president of Henry S. Miller Multi Management, hinted in a GlobeSt.com interview that growth was coming in San Antonio, but said all answers had to come from Coelho. The activity is part of her focus to beef up, or rather renew, the firm's presence in Austin and Houston.
Coelho says it definitely was time to grow the now three-man shop, which includes Jim Cummings. His timing coincides with a heightened interest in San Antonio from investors, retailers and companies looking to expand. Until recently, the state's fourth largest town primarily was viewed as a tourist town. "It was overlooked and ignored," Coelho says. "People are finally starting to pay attention to some of the development in the city.
