Tacoma Mall officials said this week Best Buy will open a 45,000-sf store across from the mall. Completion of the facility is slated for November. The Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group, which owns the mall, has inked a lease deal with the company.
Best Buy opened 12 U.S. stores during its first fiscal quarter of 2002, making for a total of 493 stores. The goal is to have more than 550 stores nationwide by the year 2004. The stores average 45,400 sf and produce average annual sales of nearly $39 million. The company also owns Future Shop, Sam Goody, Suncoast and Magnolia Hi-Fi stores.
Best Buy operates five facilities in Washington, including stores in Bellingham, Seattle, Spokane, Tukwila and Silverdale.
