It plans initial commercial supplies of leukemia antibody Zamyl and perhaps other products at the facility. Protein Design also says it bought 29 acres north of 93rd Avenue and south of Minnesota Highway 610 between West Broadway and Winnetka Boulevard in Brooklyn Park.

"We want to build a commercial scale manufacturing plant," says Jim Goff, vice president of corporate communications.

The company is negotiating with a developer to build a new manufacturing plant on the property, Goff says. He could not give specifics on how large the facility would be at this point, and he declined to name the developer with whom it is negotiating.

If the project goes forward, Protein Design expects to spend about $200 million over three years, according to the report filed earlier this week with federalregulators.

Goff expects Protein Design will break ground on the new project sometime this year.

Fremont, CA-based Protein Design develops human and humanized antibodies to prevent and treat viral diseases, cancers and cardiovascular conditions.
