Tenants include the Texas Council of Engineering Cos. and the Lisa Anderson law firm. A Starbucks coffee shop is at street level, fronting on Congress Avenue. Information on how much space each tenant will occupy was not available by press time.
The building's location--a block south of the capitol--makes it a prime office spot for lobbyists and law firms, particularly when the Texas Legislature convenes its session every two years. Sher tells GlobeSt.com that there's a "flurry of leasing activity" around the capitol in the fall before a session and he plans to have 1001 Congress in the mix. The legislature convenes in January 2003.
The four-story building has an attached parking garage. Next door is 1005 Congress, a 10-story building with 90,890 sf. Austin-based Congress Holdings is the developer of both buildings.
