The City Council has OK's the extra costs in an effort to make the facility even more attractive to users and patrons. Already under construction, the city will finance most of the venture -- $56.5 million -- with state sales tax funds. The city intends to pay off its portion by selling bonds.
The sports stadium, entertainment and convention center project, totals about 291,000 sf. Enhancements proposed this week include:
-- About 50,000 sf of city public space.
-- A 12,000-sf ballroom that can be divvied up into 7,000-sf meeting areas.
-- Brickwork on Hewitt Avenue will reflect the historic use and design of brick and mortar in the area.
The project is slated for completion next year.
