Kushner Slates Age-Restricted Community for Princeton Suburb

Westminster Communities, the Kushner Cos.' construction arm, will develop Carriage Park. According to Westminster project manager Steve Weinstein, the company expects to get final approvals and break ground this fall. Initial occupancy is projected for the spring of 2003.

According to Weinstein, the project will consist of two, four-story elevatored buildings. Amenities will include a community clubhouse with a fitness center, outdoor recreational facilities and community gardens. The apartment homes will range from 800 to 1,500 sf.

And while financial details of the project haven't been released, Carriage Park will be decidedly upscale for its residents of 55 and over. "More and more active adults today, whether they are empty nesters or retirees, are looking for the combination of upscale conveniences without the burdens associated with home ownership," according to Weinstein. "As one of the first communities of its kind in New Jersey, we fell Carriage Park will lead a trend in the state."

"In turn, Carriage Park will provide Lawrenceville with a much-needed housing option that will allow the area's active adults remain near family and friends while achieving a simpler lifestyle," according to Weinstein.

The development of Carriage Park also marks Kushner's continued expansion in the area of active adult housing. In Franklin Lakes, NJ, for example, Westminster is currently completing work on The Horizons of Franklin Lakes, which is similarly an upscale rental community with a total of 120 apartment homes.

Kushner is also set to move on the construction of several additional communities in the coming months, include a project in East Brunswick, NJ, in Middlesex County. Altogether, Kushner currently owns and manages more than 24,000 apartment units of all types in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts and Florida.
