Pollack has spent nearly three years on the renovation. The outdated strip mall with 70% occupancy is now a Mediterranean village-style market that's 100% leased. Pollack recently wrapped up renovations on retail centers in Tucson, Glendale, Phoenix and Mesa.
Tempe's annual award is presented to commercial property owners, architects and contractors who have visually enhanced the city via construction projects, landscaping and renovation. Robert Kubicek Architects of Phoenix was the project architect while Pollack handled the general contracting duties.
In a prepared statement, president Michael A. Pollack said many times a renovated property will spark upgrades in the neighborhood. "To avoid market ills and to succeed in today's economy, now more than ever there's the opportunity to preserve existing properties versus overbuilding with new product," he added. Pollack and its affiliates own and operate more than 60 shopping centers for a total of more than two million sf in metro Phoenix and another one million sf in California.
