Pixar is expected to submit a preliminary expansion plan to the city in the next few months, which will be reviewed before a formal application is submitted that would change the company's existing use permit to allow for expansion.

In 1996 Pixar's original plans included a new 400,000-sf, $150 million animation studio on 14-acres in Emeryville. The site is located on former Del Monte canning and distribution facilities. The company has developed about half of the campus so far and is ready for the second phase. The second phase will be developed on the corner of Park and Hollis, on the existing site.
