"We leased it while it was occupied," Steven A. Lieberman of Dallas-based Weitzman Group says. "The history is that Wickes always wanted to capture the Preston Hollow/North Dallas customer with a store at LBJ and Midway Road. When the opportunity to pick up the former HomePlace space became available, Wickes took it, subsequently, giving them overlapping coverage in the trade area." Meanwhile, MJDesigns needed to shift its trade area from Mockingbird and Abrams. "We were able to coordinate a win-win for both companies," Lieberman says.
Lieberman and Ken Leonard of Leonard Associates represented Wickes. Lieberman and Terry Syler of the Weitzman Group are in charge of the MJDesigns account.
This weekend, the Weitzman Group and Cencor Realty Services unveil a 51,000-sf addition to Windhaven Plaza, a 26-acre project with a 99%-leased first phase at the intersection of Dallas North Tollway and Parker Road in West Plano. The overall occupancy is 90%, with plans on the drawing board for an 18,000-sf structure for medical uses. The second phase's tenant roster is a 60% retail-to-40% medical mix. Windhaven Plaza's addition was designed by Hodges & Associates of Dallas and constructed by Pacific Builders.
A Kroger's Signature store and Academy Sports & Outdoors anchor the first phase and Seventeen, the expansion. The center totals 235,831 sf. David Wilson of Cencor Realty Services is the development partner on the project. Weitzman's Michelle Caplan and David Sacher handle retail leasing while Joe Martinez is tasked with the office assignment. Cencor's Pamela Cox is overseeing the grand opening.
The plaza's tenant roster targets teen-agers. This weekend's events play off that strategy, with pop star Jessica Simpson appearing at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Also appearing will be Ryan Cabrera, a new recording artist, and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
In other retail deals, Brett French of Property Advisers Realty Inc. in Irving signed Westaff to 1,270 sf at Furneaux Creek Shopping Center at 2625 Old Denton Rd. in Carrollton. French negotiated the pact for the building owner, Madison Realty of Dallas.
Property Advisers Realty's Jason Miller renewed Blockbuster to a spot at the Summit at Bridgewood shopping center at 1100 Bridgewood in Fort Worth. Miller represented the building owner while Ben Kirkland, Blockbuster's senior manager of development, handled talks for the tenant.
