Waitex, based here and headed by president Howard Li, is a warehouse/distribution and Internet fulfillment provider that deals mostly in apparel and related products. The company provides its services to manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, retailers and e-tailers, and besides its main W/D facility, also located here, it has facilities in Carlstadt (three locations), North Bergen (two facilities), Clifton (also two facilities), Secaucus and East Rutherford, NJ as well as Rancho Cucamonga, CA. The company also has an administrative office located in New York City.

According to plans that have been filed with the local planning board and outlined by company officials, the expansion project would be completed in two simultaneous phases, 68,000- and 208,000-sf extensions on opposite sides of its existing facility, which it leases from Harrison Industrial Parks Inc. of Carlstadt, NJ. The total amount of space involved also includes 10,000-sf of new built-out office space, as well as 18,600 sf of existing warehouse space that would be converted into an on-site retail outlet.

Among the issues that have to be addressed by the planning board before the project can move ahead are variances requested by Waitex for shorter front-yard and side-yard set-backs than are currently allowed, as well as for off-street parking. City officials, utilizing an impact study by the engineering firm of Schoor DePalma Inc., are also expected to require the company to make some drainage upgrades at the site, which lies adjacent to a wetlands area.

No timeline for the project has been outlined yet, and total projected cost has not been disclosed. The planning board is expected to move on the proposal within the next few weeks.
