The farmers own a total of 600 acres on the western edge of Madera. The transaction is called an agricultural easement and cannot be reversed by future elected officials.
The deal was arranged by the American Farmland Trust and used funds provided by Farmland Conservancy Program, Federal Farmland Protection Program and American Farmland Trust.
