Nossaman Guthner is the law firm from which U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman, a partner in the firm's Sacramento office, was named to her post in President George Bush's cabinet in January 2001.
The law firm's new lease is an extension and expansion of its premises on the 30th and 31st floor of the Union Bank building at 445 S. Figueroa St. The firm has been in the building since 1962, according to Clay Hammerstein of Insignia/ESG, who represented the tenant along with partner Steve Bay. Chris Runyen from Grubb & Ellis represented the landlord, Hertz Investment Group.
Nossaman Guthner Knox & Elliott specializes in complex civil litigation, infrastructure, land use, environmental and real estate, health care, corporate transactions and public policy. The firm represents a variety of public and private sector clients with interests ranging from aerospace and transportation to real estate development and water. It was founded in 1959 and has more than 120 attorneys and lobbyists throughout offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento and Irvine.
The Nossman Guthner deal is one of a number of expansions and extensions of law firm leases this year that have provided bright spots in the L.A. leasing scene. Among the largest of the others were a 100,498-sf extension by Howrey Simon Arnold & White at 550 S. Hope St. and a 117,000-sf renewal and expansion by Lewis D'Amato, Brisbois & Bisgaard at 221 N. Figueroa St., both downtown and both brokered by Hammerstein and Bay; plus an 85,175-sf sublease for Alschuler Grossman Stein & Kahan at The Water Garden in Santa Monica that they brokered with Insignia's Hunt Barnett.
In the Lewis D'Amato deal, Hammerstein and Bay represented the landlord while Craig McKenna of Julien J. Studley Inc. represented Lewis D'Amato.
