The $65-million project involves a 175-room hotel and 650-space parking garage. A second phase will include office, additional commercial, restaurant and retail spaces, as well as an expanded parking garage.
The parcel is located at the corner of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue, a spot that has been termed the "Gateway to Boston" due to its location on one of Boston's major thoroughfares and its proximity to Boston's downtown neighborhoods.
City Mayor Thomas M. Menino anticipates that the project will be "a major economic catalyst for this area and for the city as a whole." The City has invested a total of $16.9 million, in cash and land costs, to fund this project.
