The Dallas-based new and used bookstore chain signed a long-term lease in a plan to open the doors in mid-February 2003. The Half Price bookstore will close its location in Irving Marketplace at 3913 W. Airport Freeway after the 2002 holiday season.
Jeff Harrison, senior vice president of Dallas-based Weitzman Group, tells GlobeSt.com that he and assistant vice president Chris Thomas have been working the relocation deal for two years. The popular regional retailer kept saying "no," but Harrison said they kept going back. "I learned from Herb (Weitzman) that if you believe in the concept and the tenant that you'll go that extra mile," Harrison said. Now, the plan is to chase retail neighbors to complement the bookstore, such as eclectic coffee shops and bakeries.
The Weitzman team represents the owner, Beltline Airport JV. David Lewis of Dallas-based Lincoln Property Co. bargained for the bookstore chain.
A 100,000-sf Target, which owns its location, is the anchor for Irving Towne Center. The roster includes Famous Footwear, Car Toys. Mattress Firm, Chili's and On the Border. Ulta, the beauty products retailer, vacated the spot now being retrofitted for the bookstore. The 16-year-old center is situated at the intersection of North Beltline Road and across the street from Irving Mall.
