Boutin, formerly the vice president of operations for Hospital Builders and Equipment Corp., a national health-care designer and builder, will be responsible for developing and managing Summit Builders' health-care division in Arizona, California and the Southwestern US.
"It was a good marriage," Boutin told GlobeSt.com of his new position. "I had the background they were looking for and they had the good company I was looking for." Boutin's expertise in the health-care industry will build-in an advantage when it comes to bidding on new medical construction projects, he said.
Until Boutin's hiring, the company didn't undertake health-care construction projects, primarily because the complexity of the work requires a specialist who understands the needs of the medical community. "Health-care construction is very complicated. It's probably the most complex type of construction that is being built," he explained. "In order to do it well, you have to have quality and qualified people on staff."
Boutin said he is presently meeting with architectural and engineering firms that handle medical construction to get out the word that Summit Builders now has the professional expertise to handle health-care development.
Although he has no medical construction projects on the drawing board, Boutin said the phenomenal growth of the medical industry in Phoenix, California and other southwest regions, will mean new growth for the company. That growth could be soon in coming with his background as the former director of construction for the Columbia/HCA hospital system overseeing all hospital construction in the eastern US and his memberships in the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Society of Healthcare Engineering.
