The Letterman company houses five Lucasfilms operations that are currently located in Marin County, including Industrial Light & Magic, LucasArts Entertainment Company, Lucas Learning Ltd., the THX Group and Lucas OnLine.
According to Letterman Digital Arts Ltd., the final design for the new presidio location includes four buildings encompassing 850,000-sf on 23 acres. They are designed to blend in with the historic atmosphere of the Presidio. The buildings will be in V formation and have 16.5 acres of open space between them. The tallest building is four stories tall. A restaurant and café is included in the plans.
Letterman is paying the Presidio Trust nearly $6 million per year for the space. The company signed a lease last year. Deconstruction of the old Letterman hospital began shortly thereafter. The company has not announced when it will begin construction.
The Presidio Trust is charged with making the 1.168-acre Presidio financially self-sufficient by 2013.
