The 26,000-sf center will include a fitness center, arts and crafts studio, technology center, recreational areas and meeting rooms. The third floor will house a new Bayshore branch of the Daly City Public Library.
The Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club assisted in fundraising and will operate a youth center at the new facility. Last year a $1.25 million state grant pledged for the project was re-allocated. In August former Daly City residents Robert and Rita DeLue donated $1 million to the project, which helped make up some of the shortfall. The budget includes a $2 million contribution from Daly City and $1 million from the Packard Foundation.
The Boys and Girls Club is continuing to raise money for the community center, which is short about $1 million, including money for furniture and equipment. Site work is now underway. Construction of the actual buildsing is expected to begin in the spring.
