Charlie Woolley of the St. Charles Town Co., is selling the space in the Equitable Building as office condominiums.
Baltz's renovation promises to be the most historic re-creation of an old bank space in Denver. Baltz, a history buff who laments that so many banks in Denver are headquartered out of state, gave a contractor old photographs of his bank space when the former First National Bank of Denver was headquartered in the Equitable Building from 1896 to 1911. Baltz's instructions were to reproduce the space as realistically as possible.
Recently, workers moved a $150,000, 7.5-ton, round bank vault into the building. Baltz also is having things such as mahogany tables that originally graced the First National Bank of Denver, at one time the largest bank west of the Mississippi River, reproduced.
The bank branch is scheduled to open in November.
