The opening is part of the chain's northward expansion from its South Jersey roots. Besides the newly renovated store here, the company has recently opened units in East Orange, Totowa and Elizabeth. The Jersey City store is also Forman Mills' largest, substantially topping its usual 35,000-sf to 50,000-sf prototype.
"The Jersey City store is an attractive site for us because it's part of large, urban market and it's situated on a major commercial corridor," according to Richard Forman, the chain's president and CEO. Company officials have also indicated that they may take a look at New York as part of the chain's ongoing expansion.
