Architects Colwyn Foulkes & Partners's designs for the five-acre brownfield site include a variety of office space ranging from small individual suites to a large institutional building. A microbrewery and other light industrial space will be provided as well as leisure facilities and 378 apartments, including affordable housing.
There will be a new 'metro' size supermarket and specialist retail units. Other planned ground floor uses include new waterfront restaurants, bars and cafes. 467 underground parking spaces will also be provided. A new footbridge spanning the floating harbour to Castle Park will be built, although this is the subject of a separate application.
Architect Nick Colwyn Foulkes said: "The scheme design has been drawn up to both reflect the legacy of sugar and brewing industry on the site over the last 300 years and to create a thriving and active new 24-hour quarter, at the centre of a major European city, fit for the 21st century."
