What the developer has in mind for an 18-acre site are a two-story office building of unspecified size to house the company's operations, along with four storage hangars totaling 120,000 sf, a 38-car parking lot and a tarmac area for helicopter operations. The site is adjacent to an existing helipad.
The project would also be near several ongoing redevelopment projects here, including the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor, a master-planned residential community; the Hudson River Walkway, a public space; and Hudson County's first golf course, which is being built by OENJ-Cherokee Inc. of Elizabeth, NJ. That proximity has local officials concerned.
In memos to the city's board of adjustment regarding the proposal, both city planner John Fussa and environmental consultant Jim Monkowski expressed their concerns relating to environmental impact, noise, traffic and safety. A public hearing has been set for mid-February.
