The $120-million, 517-room property was under construction since April 2002 and occupies a waterfront site along Pacific Coast Highway with access to the beach for hotel guests via a pedestrian bridge. It is the largest hotel to open in Southern California since the 500-room Pechanga Hotel opened in 2002 at the Pechanga Casino in Temecula.
The new hotel is the 26th Hyatt property in California. It is situated between Long Beach and Newport Beach on an elevated parcel of land that includes a pool, recreation area and a number of other indoor and outdoor features. Its 517 rooms include 57 suites with private terraces and ocean views.
The privately-financed resort obtained funding from GMAC Commercial Mortgage Corp., the permanent lender on the project. The property includes more than 110,000 sf of indoor and outdoor function space, a 10,700-sf exhibit hall, a 20,000-sf spa called Pacific Waters, three restaurants, two lounges, and an on-site retail plaza. The new Hyatt's standard in-room features include two-line telephones, high-speed Internet access and a number of other features designed with appeal to business travelers and vacationers.
Hyatt Hotels Corp. operates 124 hotels and resorts in the US, Canada, and the Caribbean. Hyatt International, through its subsidiaries, operates 80 hotels and resorts in 36 countries.
