The designation, recommended recently by the Commission on Chicago Landmarks and expected to be passed by the city council, also will enable Luce to obtain property tax breaks for the building at 6565 S. Yale Ave. under Cook County's Class L program. However, it was the craftsmanship of the seven-story brick and terra cotta building, as well as being one of only two remaining buildings with an interior atrium and skylight, that were prime reasons for the commission's recommendation. The other is the Brewster Apartments at 2800 N. Pine Grove Ave. in the Lakeview neighborhood, which was converted to condominiums about 20 years ago.
