The commission allocated $17.6 million to widen Zarzamora, Applewhite and Watson roads in county's southern sector to handle increased traffic around the planned plant. The Texas Department of Transportation and Bexar County will work cooperatively on the projects.
The road improvements are part of a $133-million incentive package. Other state-related incentives include $27 million for job training and recruitment and $15 million for building a second rail line to the facility. The state has said the return on the package would be 18.3% over 10 years.
The $800-million plant will be situated on 2,000 acres south of San Antonio's city limits. Construction is scheduled to begin next year with production of Toyota Tundra pickup trucks to start in 2006.
