The core of the expansion and redevelopment of the museum is a 100,000-sf addition to the museum's Liberty Street buildings. The addition will include six new galleries, a 165-seat auditorium, a new center for families and children, and a fully reconstructed, 18th-century Chinese house with all its furnishings. The museum will also create a new public garden and a memorial park dedicated to the region's military history as well as other renovation projects

The museum recently appointed Ray Williams as director of education and he will oversee the expansion of education programming for adults and children as well as direct the opening of a new art education center.
