John Ferrari, OneBeacon's vice president of real estate, says that the company uses a number of different service providers for its real estate needs and wanted to consolidate all that business under one roof. "As part of a new focus on managing our occupancy costs, however, we decided to shift to a single provider. After careful consideration it became clear that Richards Barry Joyce & Partners' combination of strong strategic expertise and analytical skills made them the right choice for us," he notes.

Mark Coffey, assistant vice president of real estate tells GlobeSt.com that the company chose Richards Barry Joyce & Partners after an interview process of various firms. He acknowledges that it is a relatively smaller firm compared to the national companies that have presences here--he called it a "boutique" firm--but he adds that "they were the best for us."

Bob Richards, president of Richards Barry Joyce & Partners calls this appointment the "largest tenant representation assignment in the Boston area in quite some time."

The move is an interesting one as Richards Barry Joyce & Partners was only formed about a year and a half ago. John Wilson and Brian McKenzie, former managing directors of the local Insignia/ESG office, joined with former Trammel Crow principals Bob Richards and John Barry, and former Trammell Crow senior vice presidents Steven Purpora and Michael Frisoli to create the firm along with Michael Joyce, a former executive vice president and partner with CB Richard Ellis/Whittier Partners, and John Lasher and John Varholak formerly of Cushman & Wakefield. At the time, the creation of the firm created an uproar in the local market especially considering that the industry-- especially on the national or international level--was moving more towards consolidation.
