Torgow, of Detroit, is chairman and CEO of the Sterling Group, a real estatefirm. He is also a partner with Kern Woodward Associates in various projectssuch as the Campus Martius development in Detroit, and is chairman of theDetroit Economic Growth Corp.
Torgow fills the vacancy left by former Gov. Engler, who resigned priorto leaving office at the beginning of this year. Torgow's term expires on April 5, 2007.
"Gary is a leader in the business and civic community in SoutheastMichigan," said Gov. Granholm. "He'll be a great partner in theimportant work of the MEDC in securing Michigan's success in attractingbusiness, jobs, and in growing our economy."
Torgow joins other local commercial real estate experts on the committee,such as Chairman Matthew P. Cullen, general manager of Economic Developmentand Enterprise Services for the General Motors Corp., and Dewitt J. Henry,director of Wayne County's Department of Jobs and Economic Development.
