The 77-acre site is located at the confluence of the St. Clair and BlackRivers. The program will potentially encompass office buildings, retail, housing, marinas, institutional uses, a regional maritime center, YMCA,hotel, conference center and supporting parking structures.
Public open space areas are planned to include promenades, demonstration environments, and civic art - all aimed at promoting tourism, education, redevelopment, and a livable community centered on a waterfront environment. The build-out of the project will occur over several years.
Several projects have been initiated. In addition to infrastructuremodifications to the site that are currently under way, two buildings havebeen planned with groundbreakings to take place soon. Construction will begin by the end of December on the Seaway Terminal, a 20,000-sf deep-water port terminal for cruise ships. The 100,000-sf Acheson Office Building will house multiple tenants and includes a 350-car parking garage. Currently in design, it is scheduled to start construction in Spring 2003.
