Washington Gas pocketed $16.3 million from the buyer, real estate developer and owner RBA, in the sale of 1100 H St., which had been the company's home since 1943. Washington Gas will now house its corporate headquarters operation in 74,000 sf of leased office space on Constitution Avenue. Washington Gas leased the offices from building owner United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, which also keeps its headquarters in the structure. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

"The new headquarters and a renovated Springfield Operations Center, in addition to upgrading facilities in Forestville and Rockville, Md., support our corporate strategies to foster a high-performance culture and dramatically improve the regulated utility," says Washington Gas chairman and CEO James H. DeGraffenreidt. "We are designing a work environment that will meet the needs of the modern workforce while continuing to focus on achieving our goals.
