County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said the county is a premier location for business growth and opportunity. The annual competition for the Governor's Cup is based on three criteria: Capital investment of at least $1 million, creation of at least 50 new jobs and the addition of at least 20,000-sf of new floor area.

Michigan had 832 projects, finishing second to Illinois, which had 835 projects. Michigan had been in first place for the past five years until this year.
