Hampton, a residential real estate professional for 12 years, was cited for bringing the 296-unit Highlands on Ponce apartment community to 98% occupancy 16 months after the venture opened. Among her marketing strategies were holding wine-tasting and shopping spree events for new residents and residents who provided referrals.

In a multifamily Atlanta market where overall vacancies are 10.3% and rent growth average is near zero, Hampton completed 152 leases in 2002 with a closing ratio of 53.5%. Average asking rent at Highlands is $950 to $3,000 per month.

The economy has affected the apartment leasing market and her production but she is confident the situation will change shortly. "I think it's getting better," Hampton tells GlobeSt.com. "We're still offering a lot of concessions, but [the market] will get better after the war is over."

Before joining Lane in 1996, Hampton was a property manager with Beacon Mortgage Corp. in North Carolina.
