The new specialty hospital will give patients in Wayne, Oakland,and Macombcounties easy access to a core team of physicians and caregivers recognizedamong the best in the nation, said DMC officials.An experienced patient care team has been assembled at The OrthopaedicSpecialtyHospital to provide a full range of orthopaedic surgical services,addressing problems of the hips, knees, shoulders, hand, spine and feet.
Hospital president Terry Reilly said the system was designed to comfortablyperform 3,000 cases in the first year of operation."With a world-class physician team, the ideal ratio of four patients to onenurse, modern equipment and technology, and responsive patient amenities,the hospital will truly be a unique health care resource for this region,"he noted.
Extensive exterior and interior renovations were completed in January,including four state-of-the-art operating rooms,18 patient rooms and fourICU beds onthe med/surgery unit.The new hospital will also house DMC's 31-bed Psychiatry Inpatient Centerand an urgent care department, and employs approximately 220 people,abouthalf retained from the staff of the Madison Community Hospital.
