Whole Foods will take over slots previously occupied by two tenants. Most of the space had been used by a Pathmark supermarket that closed two months ago, while Zany Brainy, which as part of FAO Inc. is currently in bankruptcy, closed last month.
Andrew Mainardi, III and Richard Mainardi, Jr. of Mainardi Management Co. negotiated the transaction on behalf of the property's owners, Windsor Green Investors LLC, an affiliate of the Wayne, NJ-based Mainardi organization. Ken Bleznak of the Bethesda, MD-based Atlantic Real Estate Group represented Whole Foods.
Founded in 1980, the Austin, TX-based Whole Foods is said to be the largest organic/natural foods retailer with sales last year of $2.7 billion. The company currently has a half-dozen stores in the Garden State.
