Belle Creek is a for-profit 170-acre development that includes single-family homes, apartments, town homes, parks and retail outlets. The housing is designed for mixed incomes.
The Urban Land Institute called Belle Creek the first community of its kind in Colorado and it was recognized as the best affordable housing project at the 2002 Pacific Coast Builders Conference.
The centerpiece of Belle Creek is the family center, which provides affordable early childhood care and education, a full gymnasium, a technology lab, and meeting rooms.
The center is open to all residents of Commerce Center.
"The Family Center is really the heart and soul of the Belle Creek neighborhood," says prominent oilman, real estate developer and philanthropist, Sam Gary, chairman of the Gary-Williams Co.
"We've recognized the necessity and benefit of integrating comprehensive community development principles in a for-profit development. It's our hope that others will take a similar approach to the business of building new communities."
In addition to Gary-Williams, partners at Belle Creek include New Town Builders, Rocky Mountain Mutual Housing Association, Key Community Development Corp., Banc One Community Development Corp., Belle Creek Charter School and Commerce City.
