Following the design of architectural firm Shalom Baranes Associates of Washington, DC, Clark erected a 10-story office structure behind an existing, 85,000-sf Red Cross Chapter House, which Clark also developed, long ago. By all accounts, the entire team of workers behind the project at 21st and E streets succeeded in creating a complex that maintains the Red Cross's history, as well as accommodates their current and projected needs for additional operating space.
The completed project includes a two-story underground parking structure, as well as a conference center, blood-collection facility, cafeteria and telephone demarcation room. Other features include a 2,500-sf teledata facility, a disaster operations center, conference rooms, health center space, a fitness center and a mail facility. Finally, a uniquely-designed, state-of-the-art skylit atrium serves as the physical link between yesteryear and today by connecting the new tower with the old, five-story Chapter House building.
