For several months, Koll's lips have been sealed as the ground crew dug into the site because the build-to-suit owner, Motheral Printing Co., wanted to keep a lid on the shift from 510 S. Main St. near the Fort Worth Medical District as it worked its way through the tax abatement process. According to a published account, Motheral will save about $300,000 in property taxes over the 10-year life of the abatement. In exchange, Motheral is committed to investing about $7.5 million into the project and using Fort Worth-based construction and minority-owned businesses for part of the work. The abatement met opposition a few months back because Motheral is exiting the inner city for the far eastern sector.
The 69-year-old printing company's new campus will consist of a 24,000-sf, single-story office headquarters building and 126,000-sf, state-of-the-art printing facility at 4251 Empire Rd. in the 1,300-acre CentrePort Business Park. The facility, which will employ 220, delivers in September, with the Dallas-based Koll as the developer.
