Christina Landing is slated to occupy a nearly eight-acre parcel of land along the south side of the Christina River. The Alliance is currently in the process of acquiring the $7 million property from the Riverfront Development Corp., a local organization that is also involved in the project's development. The design for the endeavor has not yet been set in stone. However, upon completion, which could take place as early as Spring 2005, Christina Landing will likely feature 240 apartments among two residential buildings, another building with 70 condominiums, 54 townhouses and a structure containing commercial office space.

"As we bring more people into Wilmington to reside, work and be entertained, we are increasing the level of interest and participation in our city's future while improving the city's financial base," notes Wilmington mayor James M. Baker. The project marks the first residential development along the river and the first development ever on the river's south side. Private funding will pick up the majority of the project's $60 million tab. However, public funds will go toward the construction of a $4 million bulkhead, a new walkway connecting two pivotal drawbridges and the redevelopment of a neighboring street.
