A lease on the building was negotiated by Andrew Witherell, president of Witherell Real Estate, a company that specializes in retail site selection and grocery center development. He also credits 4th Ward Ald. Toni Preckwinkle for assisting in bringing the grocery chain, which has 1,000 stores in the U.S., to the South Side.
The Save-A-Lot store replaces a Dollar Junction that was at the 47th and Cottage Grove corner.
In two unrelated deals further south, Casual Big & Tall has leased 3,185 sf at Chatham Village Square while Fashion Cents leased 2,400 sf at Jeffrey Plaza.
Casual Male Big & Tall plans a summer opening at the Target-anchored center built by Crown Commercial Real Estate & Development, LLC. Mid-America Asset Management Inc. senior leasing representative Barb Kading and leasing representative Tyson Fraser handled negotiations for Crown Commercial Real Estate & Development while Mid-America Real Estate VP Steve Frishman represented Canton, MA-based Casual Male Big & Tall.
Fashion Cents, a division of Norstan Apparel Shops Inc. expects to open its store at the retail center at 71st and Jeffery streets this summer. Kading handled negotiations for the property, while Stephanie Kraft of Chicago Commercial represented Fashion Cents.
