The reports show that the average price of a condo sold in April was $170,624 and $167,326 in May 2002. Year-to-date, the average price of a sold condo was $172,994, compared with $166,058 last year. The median, or middle, price of a condo was $152,750, down slightly from the $153,000 in March, but up from the $147,900 a year earlier.
Brokers say that some buyers are choosing condos as a way to enter the housing market and avoid paying the high prices of single-family homes.
However, sales are down for all housing. So far this year, 4,029 condos have sold, compared with 4,748 in the first five months of 2002.
