The planned 43,000-sf distribution center will be located on Ecorse Road with access to Metro Airport, as well as multiple freeways, and is expected to be completed by January 2004. Construction has already begun on the center.
The facility will include a covered walkway with automatic doors, a lobby education area for classes and seminars, offices, warehouse space for novelties and other floral supplies, processing area and multiple coolers.
The entire facility will be equipped with true-color lighting, which is critical in ensuring perfect color matching and design, said company officials. The coolers will be the heart of the facility and will keep the product in the best possible condition. The loading docks, bouquet assembly and processing areas will also be refrigerated and will include automated cutting machines to trim stems off flowers under treated water to ensure freshness.
