DENSO plans to invest $45 million into the new expansion.The company had considered Battle Creek and another competing state for thenew facility. A Single Business Tax credit worth $1.4 million offered by thestate helped convince DENSO to stay.
The city of Battle Creek also assisted in presenting a solid business casefor DENSO's expansion. The city is supporting a 12-year tax abatement forthe new facility worth more than $4.4 million, and is providing 1.8 acres ofland and a new road to the expanded facility.
Battle Creek Unlimited, the city's economic development organization, workedclosely with the state and city officials to convince the company thatBattle Creek was the right location for the company's new facility."We are competing in a global community and appreciate the support of thestate and local government agencies that help us to grow and protect ourfuture," said Stan Tooley, SVP of the company. "We areparticularly pleased that this expansion at our Battle Creek facility willprovide jobs for as many as 300 additional associates in the next twoyears.
