A number of similar parks are planned through Stapleton. The 1,116 acres of parks will increase the size of the Denver Park system by more than 25%.
In addition to the neighborhood parks, Stapleton's 80-acre Central Park will include a stage, café and play area, accommodating more than 1,000 people for concerts and lectures, as well as open grass area for soccer matches, an urban forest and prairie mounds for sledding during the winter. And the 2.5-acre Founders' Green Park near the East 29th Avenue Town Center under construction, will feature a 500-person amphitheater, benches, walking paths, trees and manicured lawns.
Stapleton's 4,700 acres, or 7.5 miles, will be the nation's largest urban infill development. It will include more than 12,000 homes and apartments, three million sf of regional and town center retail space and 10 million sf of office/research and industrial space.
The completed cost is expected to exceed $5 billion. Stapleton is 10 minutes east of downtown and 20 minutes west of the Denver International Airport. When completed, it will house 30,000 residents and 35,000 workers.
