This $3-million, state-of-the-art animal hospital will include surgicalfacilities, a medical laboratory, an animal blood bank, patient exam roomsand offices on three acres just north of OVRS' current Telegraph Roadhospital. Hospital staff expects to occupy the new hospital by early 2004,says John Hamburger of Sachse.

The OVRS team provides specialized veterinary medical care for pets referredby other veterinarians, including 24-hour critical care, surgery, neurology, internal medicine, cardiac and respiratory medicine, dermatology, emergencyservices, diagnostic testing and more.

"The requirements for OVRS' new hospital are similar to those for a humanmedical facility," explains Hamburger. "They perform high-tech procedures -like animal neurosurgery, laparoscopy, ultrasounds, endoscopies, CT scans -that demand the same tightly controlled environment."

Approximately half of the new hospital's site lies in Bloomfield Hills, while the other half is in Pontiac. To avoid having to meet two differentsets of municipal building codes, OVRS' civil engineer, Nowak and Fraus, designed a site plan that kept the hospital on the Bloomfield Hills side,Hamburger adds. The Pontiac side contains the parking, driveway, andlandscape areas.
