The agency, which handles all business operations for The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News, identified the site as approximately 80,000 sf of land bordered by Broadway, Colfax, 15th Street, Cheyenne Way and Cleveland Place.

"This is the first step in designing a building specifically for the needs of two newsrooms, the Denver Newspaper Agency employees and its owners," says Kirk MacDonald, president and CEO of the Agency. "The location of the site with views of the state capitol, the City and County building and City Center Park is fabulous."

The Post and News have operated from separate buildings since their business operations were consolidated under a joint operating agreement in January 2001.Agency offices have been divided between the newspapers' former downtown offices on Broadway and Colfax, as well as the three other production sites.

Last October, the Agency sold its West Colfax location, otherwise known as the former Rocky Mountain News building for $16 million to the City and County of Denver. Under that agreement, the city leased the site back to the Agency while it pursued consolidating its downtown offices.

The new building will be designed to accommodate the separate and distinct editorial departments of The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News. In addition, the corporate offices of MediaNews Group, parent company of the Post, will be housed in the new facility. The E.W. Scripps Co., owner of the News, may also have a corporate presence in the new building.MediaNews Group and The E.W. Scripps Co, headquartered in Cincinnati, equally own the Agency.
