Denver-based ProLogis is the world's largest industrial REIT. Unilever, one of the world's largest consumer products companies, will distribute a variety of its culinary, beverage and personal care products from the facility.
The transaction is the first international agreement between Unilever and ProLogis, building on a relationship that is well underway in the U.S. Unilever currently leases more than 5.3 million sf of logistics space in ProLogis parks based in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Texas, Illinois and California. The value of the Poland transaction was not released by the parties involved and not otherwise immediately available.
Park Piotrkow, located at a crossroads leading to several major industrial cities, currently consists of one 242,188- sf building. Unilever's 442,149-sf facility will be constructed in two phases. The first phase of 226,871 sf is expected to be complete in December and the second phase of 215,278 sf will be fully operational next April. ProLogis.
As it has already done in the U.S., Unilever is consolidating its logistics capabilities in Poland to meet more stringent demands from its customers for timely, efficient distribution. "Unilever needed a way to centralize Central European operations and, in turn, improve and consolidate its logistics operations to realize increased efficiency and savings in facility costs," says Martin Whitcombe, logistics manager for Unilever Polska S.A.
