The company had considered locating the testing and research center in either Brighton or a competing site in Indiana, where the company operates a sister facility. A Single Business Tax credit worth $1.6 million over a 10-year period helped convince the company to expand and create new jobs in Michigan, said state officials.
The City of Brighton has proposed a local tax abatement worth about $918,200 over 10 years to help attract the new research facility.
"American Mitsuba's decision to locate in Brighton closely follows Eberspaecher North America's recent decision to construct its first North American manufacturing facility here," said Brighton City Manager Dana Foster. The company is owned by Mitsuba Corp. of Japan and serves multiple original equipment manufacturers from sister manufacturing operations in Mt. Pleasant, MI, Indiana and Mexico.
